Slideway wipers extend machine tool working life

A M Buttkereit product story

Slideway wipers extend effective production life on modern machine tools by protecting against the abrasive effects of trapped cutting chips or other machining debris

To extend effective production life and maintain performance efficiency, the slideways on modern machine tools should be protected against the abrasive effects of trapped cutting chips or other machining debris.

Slideway wipers from M Buttkereit Ltd can be supplied as OEM equipment, or fitted as upgrades for installation by machine shop personnel or field service engineers.

For retro-fitting, the wipers can be supplied in two profile types, each in two sizes, all in one metre lengths.

The wipers comprise solid aluminium alloy frames either with or without an overhang skirt to protect the replaceable polyurethane wiper blades from hot chips.

A wiper footprint under tension of either 7.5 or 10mm width can be supplied, which provides sealing against leakage of coolant fluids as well as preventing ingress of damaging metallic particles.

Optional nominal frame heights of 17 or 23mm are available.

These can be easily cut to size and shape, with fixing holes drilled through the frames only to prevent wiper blade distortion.

Where larger quantities of standardised slipway wipers are utilised, then pre-shaped moulded wipers manufactured to fit exact slideway shapes can be supplied.

These comprise a moulded synthetic rubber seal vulcanised to a steel carrier plate.

High dimensional accuracy can be maintained for repeat orders and all the necessary fixing holes can be incorporated as standard.

These products guarantee high performance operation while ensuring minimum installation time, ideal where regular replacement of slideway wipers is part of a maintenance routine.

Replaceable wiper blades can withstand temperatures up to 94øC with this figure rising to a short-term elevated temperature of 135øC for the bonded synthetic rubber used on the moulded wipers, where a high abrasion resistance is provided, together with excellent protection against hydrolyze and micro-organisms.

Some resistance is also provided against acids, alkaline solutions, benzine and mineral oils.
