The BOHS's Fibres Special Interest Group is organising a 'Asbestos Training Issues' seminar for analysts, surveyors and consultants.

This will take place from 10.00 to 16.00 on Wednesday 15 June 2005 at the Society of Chemical Industry, London.

Asbestos testing activities are currently under the spotlight with the introduction of the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE's) 'Analysts Guide' and 'Licensed Contractors Guide'.

The HSE wants to see major improvements in standards in all areas - from laboratories and from surveyors, through to clearance testing and supervision of contractors on site - and its new guides clearly focus attention on the training and qualifications of surveyors, analysts and consultants.

This latest BOHS seminar, aimed at anyone involved in testing or training, is an update of one run in late 2004 in Newcastle, and will include presentations on: Supervisory Licence Holders from the HSE's Asbestos Licensing Unit (ALU); on the draft CAWR 2006 from the HSE's Policy Division; and on the Analysts Guide and the progress of the Licensed Contractors Guide, with a discussion forum at the end of the day.

The full programme and booking form is available on the BOHS website.

The cost, which includes lunch, is only GBP40 for BOHS members or GBP60 for non-members.

This seminar is hosted by the BOHS's Fibres Special Interest Group (SIG) which covers issues around not just asbestos but also MMMF, ceramic and organic fibres.

The BOHS supports a range of SIGs, which act as forums for discussion for those with a particular specialism or expertise, and also as reservoirs of knowledge to be tapped by members and non-members alike.
