The BOHS is organising a 'Let's Get Physical' seminar on the role of PPE in controlling exposure to physical agents.
This will take place on 24 June 2005 at the University of Salford.
The ill-health caused by workplace exposure to harmful levels of hazardous physical agents, such as noise, vibration, and extremes of heat and cold, leads to significant misery for those affected, and wastes billions of pounds in industry through absence and debilitation.
The HSE wants employers to take positive action to prevent or reduce such exposure and has set targets for ill-health reductions, developed priority programmes to tackle ill-health caused by specific physical agents, and is involving 'external' stakeholders in the provision of health and safety resources.
As a stakeholder, and in support of this strategy, the BOHS, through its PPE (personal protective equipment) Special Interest Group (SIG), has developed this 'Let's Get Physical' seminar.
Aimed at health and safety professionals throughout industry and within Local Authorities, it will promote the message that ill-health caused by physical agents can be reduced through the provision, selection and application of suitable PPE, and that help is available to employers to make decisions on what is the appropriate action.
Speakers from industry and consultancy as well as the HSE and HSL will present the practicality (or not) of applying PPE systems, explain how levels of protection may (or may not) be achieved to mitigate the hazards and risks by applying PPE, and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of PPE systems, all within the context of effectively preventing or controlling hazardous exposure to physical agents.

The cost, which includes lunch, is only GBP40 for BOHS members or GBP60 for non-members.
