BOHS is organising 'REACH: implications and opportunities for the practice and profession of occupational hygiene - an international workshop', to take place on 14 and 15 December 2005, at The Bedford Hotel, Brussels.
REACH introduces a completely new system of chemical substance/preparation regulation in the EU which will provide an important opportunity to improve the health protection of workers and will create a new chance to enhance the profile and status of the occupational hygiene profession.
This important two-day workshop brings together experts in the field of occupational hygiene and policy makers to discuss these opportunities and the consequences for occupational hygiene competency.
The aims of the workshop are: to identify the opportunities for occupational hygiene; to prepare the occupation hygiene profession for REACH; to signal to policy makers that there is a professional group capable of delivering one of the core elements of REACH, (ie worker protection aspects of the Chemical Safety Assessment and Report, including exposure assessment and estimation, DNELs and development of Exposure Scenarios to define and communicate Risk Reduction Measures); to facilitate discussion between and engage other European occupational hygiene professional groups; and to discuss needs for education and training for competency standards across the EU.
Members of European occupational hygiene associations and societies, occupational hygienists who expect or aspire to become involved in REACH-related activities and REACH policy makers should consider attending.
