BOHS is running the 'Occupational Hygiene 2006' conference from 25 to 27 April 2006 at the Assembly Rooms, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Occupational Hygiene 2006 - described by the British Occupational Hygiene Society as the pre-eminent conference in this field in Europe, brings together leading UK, European and international researchers, practitioners and regulators.
A three-day programme includes sessions on all the major themes and emerging issues in occupational health and hygiene, as well as a wide choice of topical workshops.
Dr Andrew Maynard, of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in the USA, will open the Conference with the Warner Lecture on 'Nanotechnology: the next big thing or much ado about nothing?', which will be followed by a plenary session on nanotechnology, including a keynote lecture by Professor Jon Ayres of the University of Aberdeen on nanoparticle exposure and human health.
There are two other keynote lectures over the course of the conference: Joop van Hemmen of NNO, the Netherlands, on the implications and opportunities presented by REACH for occupational hygiene, and how to develop and implement effective health and safety interventions, delivered by Professor Cheryl Haslam of Loughborough University.
Sessions on offer this year cover REACH, controlling exposure, exposure assessment, carcinogens, RPE, asthmagens, Control Banding, psycho-social aspects and risk assessment of biocides.
There is also a session dedicated to the HSE's Disease Reduction Programme, with industry case studies from the cancer and respiratory projects.
The professionally cosmopolitan environment of the conference provides excellent scope to meet fellow hygienists and peers from related professions from all sectors of industry.
The associated exhibition, running alongside, presents a range of suppliers of services and equipment.
The Conference can be booked on-line, via the BOHS website, where the programme is also available.
An early-bird reduction in fee applies for those who book before Friday 10 March 2006 and all non-BOHS members paying the full conference fee will be granted complimentary Society membership until 31 December 2006.
