Andy Gillies, a senior Occupational Hygienist and Environmental consultant, has been elected as President of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS).

Ambitious for BOHS during his year as President, which runs from April 2006 to April 2007, Andy aims to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the evolving Health Agenda and extend the Society's influence with external stakeholders.

In particular, he is keen for BOHS to contribute to the national Health, Work and Well-Being Strategy, and take an active role in development of guidance, and implementation, of the REACH Regulation in the UK.

On home ground, Andy is committed to building on the work of current President, Chris Beach, and implementing the recently developed BOHS Business Strategy 2006 - 2010.

A key personal goal is to encourage more members of the Society to get actively involved in delivering the Society's vision of "healthy workers in a healthy working environment".

Before setting up his own consultancy business in 1995, Andy had an extensive career in manufacturing industry, first with the British Steel Corporation, and later with the Dow Chemical Company.

He has been an active member of BOHS and its predecessors for many years, including terms as President of the British Institute of Occupational Hygienists and Secretary to the British Examining and Registration Board in Occupational Hygiene.

He remains an oral examiner for the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene of BOHS, and is a Fellow of the Faculty (FFOH).

With a wealth of experience in, and enthusiasm for, the field of occupational hygiene, Andy is looking forward to the challenges that the role of President will bring.
