A British Occupational Hygiene Society product story

BOHS's Hazardous Substances Special Interest Group is to run two Autumn Webinars - on-line live tutorials with voice communication by a conventional conference telephone call.

Following a successful trial earlier this year, BOHS's Hazardous Substances Special Interest Group (SIG) is running two Autumn Webinars - on-line live tutorials with voice communication by a conventional conference telephone call.

All you need to take part is a computer with an internet connection, and a phone.

Participants log onto a specific website to see the visual presentation and listen to the commentary over the phone, and can ask questions and debate issues throughout.

Both seminars will last for approximately one hour, will cost £20 for BOHS members or £30 for non-members, and can be booked via the Event Calendar on the BOHS website.

The link to the Webinar website and the conference call telephone number are provided directly to those who have registered.

The first, on the COSHH Regulations, is to be held at 15.00 (UK time), on 10th October 2006.

This will be presented by Paul Evans, who is a Principal Specialist Inspector with the HSE and a Member of BOHS's Faculty of Occupational Hygiene.

He will be looking at the changes to the COSHH Regulations which came into effect in April this year, explaining the background to these changes, the shift in emphasis towards good control practice, the differences between WELs and Occupational Exposure Standards/Maximum Exposure Limits, the relationship between the principles of good control practice and exposure limits, and the implications for compliance.

The second, entitled 'What the Material Safety Data Sheet doesn't tell you but you need to know', will take place on 24th October 2006, also at 15.00, presented by Chris Packham.

It will look at the information provided by Material Safety Data Sheets, why it can be inadequate for risk assessments, and suggest practical steps that organisations can take to ensure they have the right information.

Chris is a founder partner in EnviroDerm Services, a consultancy concerned specifically with the prevention of damage from workplace skin exposure, and is also the Leader of the Hazardous Substances SIG.
