In addition, he is keen that BOHS takes a positive approach to encouraging reduced occupational exposure to carcinogenic agents, which still account for many thousands of deaths each year in Great Britain.
Dr Cherrie says, "For more than 50 years BOHS has been helping improve the health of people at work through the efforts of its members in recognizing hazards to health, evaluating the risks posed by these hazards and providing advice about the control of unacceptable risks".
"During the coming year I hope to continue this good work and in particular highlight the important role that monitoring hazardous agents at work can have in ensuring that reliable cost-effective advice is provided to employers".
John is Research Director at the Institute of Occupational Medicine, a key independent centre for occupational health in Britain, and has an honorary post at the University of Aberdeen.
He has been an active member of BOHS for many years, having served in the past as Chair of the Standards Committee and of the Conference Committee.
He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Society's journal, the Annals of Occupational Hygiene.
