New chemical rules affect UK businesses

A British Occupational Hygiene Society product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 9, 2007

The seminar will begin with a simple introduction to REACH and its requirements, and then lead into presentations on the implications for manufacturers and importers.

The Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals will impact upon many businesses in the UK, of all sizes.

It came into force in April 2007, and will affect all manufacturers, importers and users of chemicals.

The REACH beyond 2007 seminar is an updated version of one held in Norwich in March of this year, bringing together experts from a cross-section of industry, HSE, BOHS and consultancies, along with a supporting exhibition, an open panel discussion and ample opportunity for networking.

The seminar will begin with a simple introduction to REACH and its requirements, and then lead into presentations on the implications for large manufacturers and importers, and for smaller 'downstream' users, how to comply with the regulations in areas such as protecting operators, persons affected by work, and the environment.

Later sessions will look at specific exposure and control aspects such as DNELs (derived no effect levels), ESs (exposure scenarios), RMMs (risk management measures) and extended MSDSs (manufacturers' safety data sheets), as well as IT tools, manufacturer/importer perspectives on guidance, and the implications for health and safety professionals who will be called upon to give advice.

Open to nonmembers as well as members, anyone involved in the manufacture, supply, use or disposal of chemicals can attend.
