The new BVME3100 from BVM Limited is an extremely versatile 6U VMEbus Communications Controller based on the MC68MH360, QUICC Communications Processor running at 32MHz.

The new BVME3100 from BVM Limited is an extremely versatile 6U VMEbus Communications Controller.

It provides six serial ports: four are multi-protocol ports, with software selectable RS232/422/485 interfaces and asynchronous speeds up to 115.2Kbaud.

One of these ports can be selected as Ethernet (10baseT or AUI), and another can be selected as ISDN.

Two further RS232 ports are provided, and all ports are accessed via D type connectors on the EMC shielded front panel.

The board is based on the MC68MH360, QUICC Communications Processor running at 32MHz.

It has up to 8Mbytes of 32 bit DRAM, 2Mbytes of BOOTFLASH PROM and 2Mbytes of non-volatile SRAM, watchdog, and battery backed real time clock.

A full VMEbus master/slave interface with VMEbus system controller functions allows it to be used in multi-processor systems.

The front panel contains four 25 way D type connectors for the primary channels and two 9 way D connectors for the other two serial ports.

A software programmable alphanumeric display provides two rows of eight characters for status or user information.

The BDM port of the MC68MH360 CPU is brought out onto the front panel, which allows in-site programming of the BOOTFLASH memory and aids in system configuration.

A full OS-9 software port is available, including the ISP and mwSoftStax TCP/IP stacks with BootP and serial load options.

Alternatively, there is a range of software tools that can be used directly via the BDM interface.

It is envisaged that the module will be used in Industrial Communications environments such as custom gateways and routers.

Multiple BVME3100's in a VMEbus system can be used to build sophisticated multi-port communications systems.
