A BSI British Standards product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 12, 2004

The publishing arm of the British Standards Institution will be previewing the new edition of one of its leading standards at DES 2004 in Birmingham.

The publishing arm of the British Standards Institution, BSI Business Information, will be previewing the new edition of one of its leading standards BS8888 Technical Product Specification (TPS), due out in October 2004, on stand 3310 at DES 2004 between 28th and 30th September 2004 at the NEC in Birmingham.

BS8888:2004 provides designers, engineers and metrologists with a set of requirements for the preparation of all forms of technical product documentation.

"Specification weakness is the Achilles heel for many of today's technologically advanced companies", says Brian Such, Committee Manager, British Standards.

"Tighter tolerances can often prove phenomenally expensive to apply but targeted tolerancing, through the in-depth application of a comprehensive technical product specification system, has the potential to reduce tooling, setup and manufacturing costs significantly and will shorten time to market every time", adds Such.

"BS8888: 2004, can provide your route to specification accuracy".

In addition to exhibiting, representatives from BSI are presenting three seminars.

"CAD to part the BSI way" will be presented by Paul Scott, Company Mathematician, Taylor Hobson and Brian Such, Committee Manager, BSI, on Tuesday 29th September 2004 from 1140 to 1210 BST in the Quality Counts Seminar Theatre on the Inspex show floor.

"ATEX Directive - an explosive issue" will be presented by Andrew Dickinson, Senior Engineer - ATEX/Explosion Safety, BSI, on Wednesday 29th September 2004 from 1220 to 1250 BST in the Material Matter Seminar Theatre on the DES show floor.

"CE marking, safety and design - balancing the law, technical issues and market requirements" will be presented by Graham Puddephatt, Scheme Manager, BSI, on Thursday 30th September 2004 from 1220 to 1250 BST on the DES show floor.
