A BSI British Standards product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 12, 2005

PD 5500:2006 is the new specification for unfired fusion welded pressure vessels.

PD 5500:2006 is the new specification for unfired fusion welded pressure vessels.

This major work specifies requirements for the material, design, manufacture, inspection, testing and verification of compliance for unfired fusion welded pressure vessels manufactured from carbon, ferritic alloy and austenitic steels, aluminium, copper and nickel used in a wide range of process and energy industry applications.

The term "pressure vessel" as used in this specification includes branches up to the point of connection to the connecting piping by bolting, screwing or welding, and supports, brackets or other attachments directly welded to the pressure containing shell.

The term "unfired" excludes vessels that are subject to direct generated heat or flame impingement from a fired process.

It includes vessels subject to electrical heating or heated process streams.

PD 5500:2006 supersedes PD 5500:2003 which will be withdrawn on publication.

The new specification, is an invaluable reference tool containing all the latest pressure vessel information.

It contains relevant dimensional diagrams and formulas for material determination, and marks the start of a new 3 year cycle, including updates and new enquiry cases.

In addition it: specifies requirements for materials, design, manufacture, inspection, testing and verification; provides basis for vessel design and manufacture for Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) compliance; and contains all amendments, annexes and enquiry cases made during last three years.

The three-year subscription to PD 5500:2006 includes the usual provisions of all amendments, enquiry cases and comes with a free binder and dividers.

During the last year of the subscription, the new online access to PD 5500 will be launched, including all subsequent amendments.

This is all included in the subscription.

This new tool will enable the document to be searched at ease.

The price is GBP 1150, or GBP 575 for BSI subscribing members.
