Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 3, 2006

Available now from BSI Business Information, BS EN ISO834 is a new five-part series of quality standards for fusion welding.

From welder to management, there is a need to acknowledge and understand the sources of potential problems that may affect the quality of a finished weld.

To achieve consistent product quality in welding requires the implementation of process controls at all stages to eliminate and reduce the chances of a quality defect.

Where the benefits include gaining the trust of both customers and employees; quality process control needs to be addressed as an integral part of the welding process.

BSI Business Information has just published a new five-part series of quality standards for fusion welding.

BS EN ISO834 Parts 1-5: "Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials" provide the quality requirements for process control related to all welding processes (for each process separately or in combination as specified) and identifies measures that are applicable for different situations in workshops and/or on-site.

Part 1 covers criteria for the selection of the appropriate level of quality requirements; Part 2 covers comprehensive quality requirements; Part 3 covers standard quality requirements; Part 4 covers elementary quality requirements; and Part 5 covers applicable documents.

Each part is priced at GBP 64, or GBP 32 for BSI Subscribing Members.

BS EN ISO3834 is suitable for manufacturers to use on their own or in conjunction with ISO9001:2000.

The BS EN ISO3834 series supersedes BS EN729:1995 Parts 1-4.
