Now available is BS EN 10226-2:2005 'Pipe threads where pressure tight joints are made on the threads, Taper external threads and taper internal threads, Dimensions, tolerances and designation'.

Required by building standards and codes, pipe threads must meet certain criteria to ensure safe and effective use.

Now available from BSI Business Information is BS EN 10226-2:2005 'Pipe threads where pressure tight joints are made on the threads, Taper external threads and taper internal threads, Dimensions, tolerances and designation'.

This standard outlines the common requirements for external pipe threads.

It specifies the requirements for thread form, dimensions, tolerances and designation for jointing pipe threads, sizes 1/16 to 6 inclusive, for joints made pressure-tight by the mating of the threads.

These taper internal threads are intended for use with pipes suitable for threading and for valves, fittings and other pipeline equipment interconnected by threaded joints.

Components with pipe threads produced to the dimensions and tolerances given in this standard can be assembled to give safe and effective pressure-tight joints providing proper assembly techniques are employed.

The techniques used depend on a number of factors including the type of internal thread, the quality of the mating threads, the materials of the components being connected, the thread sealant and the assembly torque.

As there are different assembly techniques, it is recommended that mixing components with parallel internal threads and taper internal threads in the same piping system is avoided.

BS EN 10226-2:2005 covers: definitions; definitions gauging; designation; dimensions; symbols and explanations; and thread design (form and length).

BS EN 10226-2:2005 partially supersedes BS 21:1985.
