Building space is only safe for people to live and work in if the internal electrical wiring and cabling comply with industry standards An important aspect of any construction or building project, standardization for electrical wiring has long been established and continues to promote overall safety and prevent fire outbreaks due to poor electrical wiring

To reflect recent developments in European cable standardization, BSI has just updated BS 6007:2006 Electric cables, Single core unsheathed heat-resisting cables for voltages up to and including 450/750 V, for internal wiring.

This standard specifies constructional and performance requirements for single core unsheathed heat-resisting cables for operation at voltages up to and including 450 V AC to earth and 750 V AC between conductors, intended for use as internal wiring.

It includes methods and conditions for routine mechanical and electrical tests.

Contents of BS 6007:2006 include: Scope, normative references, terms and definitions; Voltage designation; Construction details; Electrical tests; Non-electrical tests.

BS 6007:2006 supersedes BS 6007:2000 which will be withdrawn on publication.
