BSI to hold sustainable design conference

BSI British Standards will hold a sustainable design conference and an accompanying workshop, from 15-16 June 2009 at the CBI Conference Centre, London.

As well as updating delegates on the latest sustainable design initiatives and the standards available to assist design processes, the conference includes practical case studies which illustrate how and where sustainability can be built into the design process.

The event will feature streamed sessions on four key design areas: product design, packaging, services and events, and communication and graphic design.

Plenary sessions will explore how businesses can design sustainably in a recession, and provide clarification on terminology and metrics.

Speakers include Martin Charter, director of the Centre for Sustainable Design and Chris Sherwin, head of innovation at Forum for the Future.

The pre-conference workshop, Design for Remanufacture, aims to enhance understanding of the remanufacturing process, and encourage the design of products and components which allow remanufacture.

Delegates will also have the opportunity to take part in discussion sessions, and give their opinions on ways of educating and training designers and cross-sector co-operation.

The conference price includes a copy of BS 8887-1:2006 Design for manufacture, assembly, disassembly and end-of-life processing (MADE).
