A survey by the British Red Cross has highlighted the wider benefits to both employers and employees of completing a first aid course.

A survey by the British Red Cross has highlighted the wider benefits to both employers and employees of completing a first aid course.

The Red Cross surveyed people after they had completed a first aid course, 94% said that they felt more confident following their training and 93% said that felt of more value to their employer.

The survey also found that 89% of people felt that attending a first aid course was important in their personal development and 93% said that the ability to help colleagues was one of the most valuable elements of completing their course.

The Red Cross believes that first aid knowledge is an important life skill and can play a vital part in helping individuals and communities withstand emergencies.

Annette Holmes, Head of Commercial Training at the British Red Cross, said: "Companies should be aware of the wider benefits of first aid training".

"Not only will their staff have the ability to help colleagues but they will have increased confidence and feel a more valuable member of staff." The survey also revealed that 64% of people had been in situations requiring first aid.

Holmes added: "First aid skills may have been learnt for the work place but they can be used in any situation".

"Whether it's helping a family member at home or after a road crash".

"After the London bombings we also saw people who had been trained in first aid spontaneously assist those who'd been injured.".
