Continuing its long-standing commitment to provide students with advanced technical computing tools, The MathWorks has launched Matlab Student Version Release 13.

Continuing its long-standing commitment to provide students with advanced technical computing tools, The MathWorks has launched Matlab Student Version Release 13 This release includes the latest updates to the company's flagship products Matlab and Simulink for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X platforms

The MathWorks is the leader in educating tomorrow's scientists and engineers.

More than 250,000 students, researchers, and instructors at 3500 universities and colleges worldwide are using Matlab and Simulink for technical computation, visualisation, programming, modelling and simulation.

"Matlab Student Version is an increasingly valuable tool to help students master key concepts in mathematics, science, and engineering", said Gilbert Strang, Professor of Mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"Synchronising the latest professional version of Matlab with Macintosh and Linux will be useful to professors and students worldwide".

Matlab Student Version is a complete software package that includes Matlab 6.5, Simulink 5, and the Symbolic Math Toolbox.

With Matlab 6.5, students can take advantage of its new JIT acceleration technology that speeds complex engineering and scientific applications, in some cases, hundreds of times faster than in previous versions.

Simulink 5 provides access to multidomain capabilities for modelling, simulating, and analysing mechanical, electrical power, and wireless systems.

A number of application-specific companion products are also available for students.

"The MathWorks has deep roots in the academic community; in fact educators were the first to recognise the potential of Matlab", said Cleve Moler, Chief Scientist and cofounder of The MathWorks.

Moler also noted that the company's renewed support of the Mac and worldwide availability under Linux provides students with a full-range of platform options for college-level scientific and engineering studies.

In addition to the release of Matlab Student Version, The MathWorks will provide the global academic community a wealth of resources with the recent launch of the education website (www.mathworks/education).

The Student Centre offers students step-by-step tutorials that outline how to get started using Matlab and Simulink, links to global job opportunities that require Matlab skills, and information on companion software.

The Faculty Centre, a resource for educators, provides links to Matlab-based course materials and recommended product groups, as well as listings of the more than 500 Matlab-based textbooks currently in print.

Matlab Student Version is available immediately at a discounted student price of $70 and can be purchased at The MathWorks online store.

To qualify for purchase, students must be enrolled at a degree-granting institution and have a valid student ID.
