Warm reception for latest software at MACH
The recent MACH 2004 show at the NEC in Birmingham has proven a resounding success for PEPS CADCAM developer Camtek, after a warm reception to version 5.3 of its latest software suite.
Faster wire EDM CAD/CAM programming on offer
Camtek's PEPS Productivity Enhancement Technology allows the Wire EDM CAD/CAM user to create more accurate programs in less time
All systems have improved solid functionality with additional cutting technology and simulation enhancements.
The PEPS suite consists of several module applications (such as milling, turning, wire etc).
This modular approach provides an extremely stable environment and allows Camtek's developers to provide tools and features both for individual modules or completely across the range.
Major new enhancements have been added to Wire EDM milling and turning systems that make PEPS the ideal solution in the tool room and general production environments.
Pentacut, a new five-axis laser and tube cutting system also extends the range and power of the product line.

Camtek has launched a sister product to its successful PEPS PentaCut five-axis laser CADCAM software - PEPS TubeCut.
Machining software gains solid electrode design
Camtek has enhanced its PEPS Solidcut 3D mould, die and component machining system with a semi-automated electrode geometry design option.
PEPS helps Bond keep his cool
Talbot Designs recently updated its PEPS milling module to the latest version, which played a leading role in the creation of set pieces for the latest James Bond movie, Die another Day.
PEPS CAD functionality has been extended again with many new viewing, drawing and editing tools.
A solid CAM design module is now available that gives the ability to produce solid models using powerful Boolean tools, items can be extruded, rotated, added and subtracted, blended, converted from Nurbs etc.
All Version 5 modules can import solid models and handle the data.
There is an extended range of solid CAD translators available including: IGES, STEP, X_T, SAT, CATIA, and Pro- Engineer, as well as Wire Frame DXF, DWG, VDA, HP- ME10.
PEPS Wire EDM is already an industry-leading product, Version 5 now adds simulation that shows machining in realistic rendered solids, parts can also be checked for removal from the billet.
Involute gears, formed turning tools and cams can be designed and cut, special routines that design Variable Land height are standard.
Advanced functions have been added that give the ability to use technology from the machines control, this includes Charmilles Command files, built in CT Expert for the complete range of machines, Agie Vision Script Files and Agie 123 Job files.
The system supports all makes of wire machines and is fantastic value for money.
The well-known PEPS milling and turning software has become even better.
Improved simulation, a completely new advanced tooling database, a powerful operation manager that can cut paste, edit, re-order, disable and enable machining sequences in a simple to use dialogue.
Many powerful interactive machining routines are standard and allow a fast and easy to understand method that will enable parts to created right first time.
For 3D milling, PEPS Solidcut offers a fully solid based 3D surface machining system.
It has an extensive range of machining routines for roughing and finishing parts, these include: zigzag, pocket, profile, rest, waterline, radial finishing projection, flat and steep area.
Solidcut has the ability to design solids and/or import models through a wide range of CAD translators.
This is all backed with a first class set of machine post processors that produce NC code second to none.
PEPS PentaCut is a new powerful five-axis laser cutting system that is used to produce the NC programs that cut complex pressings on five-axis laser machines.
The system has many powerful features such as collision avoidance, machine technology change points, modelling of the machine and cutting head.
Fixtures can be automatically created from flat sheet material.
A wizard guides the user through a simple process that results in a slot together fixture following the parts contours, this fits into a base plate with a slot and peg design.
Finally an NC program to cut the 2D fixture plates is generated.
There is also an optional tube design and cutting option for use on laser machines with a rotational axis.
PEPS TubeCut uses wizards to create any type of tube with interpenetrating cross pieces at any angle.
The system calculates the resultant trims and applies the cutting path by moving the laser head and rotational axis.
Upgrades and software maintenance products are available to existing PEPS users to allow them to keep their products up to date.
Commented Brian Warner, Managing Director: "Version 5 is a natural progression for PEPS.
Now a more 'solids-based' product, it allows the program to combine a more visual approach to parts in addition to their preferred normal programming method within PEPS.
I firmly believe that there is no other comparable suite of applications in this field which can offer such a broad support of technologies".
