Measuring wheels handle heavyweight duties

Caesar DataSystems can now offer the six-component measuring wheels from US manufacturer RS Technologies in ranges suitable for the heaviest trucks, trailers, coaches and buses.
Using special hub adapters, the same measuring transducer can be installed for use with single front and rear wheels, tandem rear wheels and now even with the especially wide super-single wheels.
The superior accuracy, sensitivity and durability of the Heavy Truck WFTs make them perfect for a wide range of automotive testing and measurement applications including analysing vehicle dynamics, braking, steering, handling, rolling resistance, tire friction, and the collection of road load data (RLD).
The assembly, adjustment and parameter settings of these measuring wheels are extremely effortless.
Using pre-assembled adapter flanges the preparation time per wheel takes not much longer than a normal tire change.
The wheel nuts and air valve always remain freely accessible, which facilitates a fast change of the vehicle configuration.
For the data transfer from the rotary wheel to the in-vehicle measuring system both slipring and contactless telemetry systems can be supplied.
The MOPS multichannel measurement system from Caesar DataSystems has standard interface modules for both variants - telemetry and slipring.
The measured signals for each wheel, three forces, three moments and two angle co-ordinates, are acquired and digitised with a scanning rate of 20kHz per channel with 16bit resolution.
The integrated digital signal processors (DSP) calculate in real time to transform the wheel angular co-ordinate load data to xyz vehicle co-ordinates making possible calibration and viewing of data while driving.
Considerable time and effort is also saved in post processing of the data.
Any errors or distortion of the measured signals - due to variations in temperature for example - are corrected automatically and online.
A data interface to link with CANbus systems is available too.
