A compact, single-port serial device server will instantly convert data from RS232/422/485 interfaces to a 10/100Mbps Ethernet network running the TCP/IP protocol

A compact, single-port serial device server designed to instantly convert data from RS232/422/485 interfaces to a 10/100Mbps Ethernet network running the TCP/IP protocol has been introduced by Captec.

The new NPort Express server offers a highly cost-effective way of instantly linking units with a RS232/422/485 interface such as PCs, PLCs, CNCs, card readers, sensors, gauges, telecommunications switches, PQS systems and UPSs to Ethernet networks and the Internet.

NPort Express supports Windows native COM drivers, avoiding the need to modify device software to incorporate network connectivity during upgrade or redesign.

It also simplifies service and support, because network-enabled devices can be remotely configured and diagnosed without connecting a serial cable.

The simplicity and cost-saving features of NPort Express open a whole new world of remote network control possibilities.

It is ideal for commercial and industrial applications where serial devices are networked together.

For example factory automation, process control and communications systems will benefit from the capability to connect transparently to any PC or serial device over an Ethernet TCP/IP LAN or WAN.

The NPort Express server automatically configures its IP address from a DHCP server, and can be accessed via a standard COM port driver and TCP/IP socket communications.

The COM port driver behaves as though the serial device is directly connected to a remote PC.

Existing serial-port software will operate without realising that the device is not connected locally.

The 3-in-1 RS232/422/485 interface comes in a compact design measuring only 87 x 100.4 x 22mm.
