New from Carlo Gavazzi is the GSM8, a GSM modem for DIN-rail mounting, which can be connected to the intelligent central unit in the Dupline fieldbus.

This combines the advantages of mobile telephony with Dupline features, such as a long range (up to 10 km), simple handling, flexible and modular design, as well as the possibility of using existing wires.

The central unit can be configured to send user-defined SMS (short message service) 'text' messages to one, or several, mobile telephones or GSM modems based on events on the fieldbus.

This may be a digital signal changing status or an analogue signal exceeding a limit value.

It is also possible to send a control command, via SMS, to an output module or to inquire about the status of a digital or analogue signal on the fieldbus at any time.

The system is ideal for remote control applications, such as waterworks or wastewater treatment plants, where several remote pump stations must be controlled and monitored.
