At the French National Agricultural Research Centre, a monitoring system employed to switch the lights off in uninhabited rooms, was so effective that its payback time was just two months!

One might think that accidentally leaving a light on wouldn't lead to excessive electricity bills However, at the French National Agricultural Research Centre (INRA), hundreds of busy engineers work around the clock, and frequently forget to turn off the lights

The solution to the problem has been a Carlo Gavazzi Dupline monitoring system, employed to switch the lights off in uninhabited rooms, which was so effective that its payback time was just two months.

This radically reduced the institute's electricity bill by the simplest means possible.

The specification called for a stand-alone system, with minimal installation time and easy maintenance.

Dupline was chosen because it offers all of these facilities, as well as low cabling costs and simple programming.

At INRA, Dupline PIR (Passive Infra Red) sensors are used to detect the presence of people in corridors to ensure that lights are kept on during occupancy.

Due to the layout of the corridors, the angling and positioning of the PIR sensors was vital.

However, Carlo Gavazzi's engineers were able to provide simple installation advice that solved this problem before set up.

Dupline MasterGenerators are used to handle the logic, while the switching of lighting loads is dealt with by four channel relay output modules.

Maintenance staff at INRA handled the complete installation, including programming of the MasterGenerators and coding of the PIRs and output modules.

The only support that was required was a couple of hours training from Carlo Gavazzi personnel.
