Power analyser runs to 50th harmonic
The WM3-96 smart power analyser is one of very few which can perform FFT analysis to the 50th harmonic, as required by the G5/4 standard.
"Carlo Gavazzi's WM3 meter forms an integral part of the control loop of the test rig, monitoring and recording the motor power requirements for inclusion on the products test certificate", commented Paul Copeman, Test Development Engineer at Rotork.
"Previously the test rig would convert AC voltage, current, frequency and power factors to signal level DC voltage".
"These signals were then fed to an analogue-to-digital (A/D) convertor for use within the test program".
"The WM3 units provide all the functionality of the previous system at a fraction of the cost and no longer require the PC to be fitted with specialised A/D convertors".
Rotork's products are shipped to customers worldwide and so need to suit a wide range of power supply requirements, therefore the test rig must supply the unit under test with the appropriate voltage via an automatically controlled variable transformer.
Carlo Gavazzi's unit was chosen over its competitors due to its wide voltage measurement range, up to 690V phase to phase, and good sampling rate, which make it ideal for dynamic tests.
