Relays monitor safety via fieldbus
DuplineSafe bus transmitters and relays allow customers to leverage investment in the Dupline fieldbus system to monitor safety-critical emergency-stop switches.
New Carlo Gavazzi DuplineSafe bus transmitters and relays allow customers to leverage investment in the Dupline fieldbus system to monitor safety-critical emergency-stop switches Major benefits of using the Dupline fieldbus for safety monitoring include reduced wiring while meeting international safety standards, and enhanced diagnostics to trace faults quickly and maximise uptime

Waterstop is a new electronic alarm system which provides an early warning of water leaks; it fits on to the wall at ground level and can be hidden completely behind the wall panel
Plastic bodies cut price of photo sensors
Carlo Gavazzi has launched a new range of photo sensors in M18 housings, significantly lower in price thanks to the use of rugged plastic bodies rather than metal
The DuplineSafe range includes a compact, bus-powered input module that can be positioned close to individual emergency stop switches, and a relay output module to monitor switch activation and generate status outputs for external equipment.
Both modules are TUV-certified compliant with IEC/EN61508-SIL3 and EN954-1 Cat 4 safety standards for emergency stop systems.
A handheld configuration tool is also provided, which can be connected at any point on the Dupline bus for easy coding and testing without requiring a PC.
The DuplineSafe system also features gateways to Profibus-DP and Modbus fieldbus systems, which allows convenient display of safety bus information on a text display or via a PLC or PC.
Broader benefits of the Dupline bus system for safety critical and general purpose fieldbus networking include system independence, bidirectional signalling, high noise immunity, long transmission distances up to 5km, and easy scalability.
A single DuplineSafe relay module can monitor up to 63 safety input modules, and generates status outputs for connected equipment.
The relay module is DIN-rail mounted and powered from an ordinary single-phase AC line, and also supports automatic and manual restart options.
The input modules are IP67-rated, with compact dimensions allowing installation close to safety switches in decentralised locations.
Potential-free contacts also enhance safety in hazardous environments.
The new DuplineSafe range now allows the benefits of Dupline bus in installations with widespread safety switches, including industrial equipment and machine tools, and long bulk material conveyors such as those used in mines, tunnels, cement factories, power plants and stone mills.
Other long conveyors such as airport luggage handling systems, as well as a wide variety of automated logistics systems, will also benefit from economical installation and Dupline's comprehensive diagnostics for rapid fault finding.
