Capacitive level sensors learn new lessons

Carol Gavazzi has extended its self learn/remote teach technology to capacitive level sensors, with the introduction of a new sensor family primarily aimed at the plastics and rubber industries.

Carol Gavazzi has extended its self learn/remote teach technology to capacitive level sensors, with the introduction of a new sensor family primarily aimed at the plastics and rubber industries.

New CA30 models are designed to ensure optimal sensing characteristics for detection of plastic granulate and recycled scrap plastic materials, thus ensuring that downstream mixers, dosing conveyors and dryers do not run empty.

Working with materials characterised by extremely low dielectric constant and a large air volume, these applications demand high reliability in setup alongside the ability to operate in high-temperatures with minimal risk of electrostatic discharges.

Using their built-in self-learning technology, the new sensors adjust themselves automatically and dependably by calculating an on/off switch-point based on a low dielectric reference.

The user simply has to mount and wire the sensor: no further adjustments are needed.

Alternatively setup can be performed remotely in a single step via the wire.

The sensors can be mounted on a sight glass, to a wall or installed directly in the granulate.

Housed in thermoplastic polyester and featuring Tripleshield protection, they can withstand ESD up to 40kV and operate with temperatures up to 120C on the sensing face.

M30 and M32 dimension versions are available.

Both sizes incorporate NPN and PNP transistor output and NO or NC options in the same sensor, simplifying inventories and reducing stock requirements.

Available now, the new sensors meet EMC Directive 89/336/EEC, carry CE marking and are UL approved to UL508 (CSA).
