Sightglasses allow safe inspection
IR sightglasses are designed to enable thermographers to obtain accurate high-definition infra-red images of electrical switchgear without removing protective guards and covers.
IR sightglasses are designed to enable thermographers to obtain accurate high-definition infra-red images of electrical switchgear without removing protective guards and covers To enable a thermographer to inspect electrical equipment such as cable terminations, busbar connections and contactors, a direct line of sight must be available between the object to be viewed and the thermal imaging system

Sightglasses allow safe infra-red inspection
CTI Cyclops infra-red sightglasses and ports allow infra-red surveys of electrical equipment to take place without the need to expose the thermographer to the risks of electrical discharges.
Thermal inspection on show
At the recent Maintec 2003 maintenance exhibition Cockburn Thermal Imaging focused on applications of its patented CTI Cyclops thermographic inspection window.
A common misconception is that infrared cameras can "see through" objects such as protecting covers and doors.
As equipment must be online and on load to maximise the heat generated at a fault location, opening or removing the protective cover exposes the thermographer to a potentially lethal situation.
The permanent fitting of an IR sightglass into the cover eliminates most of the many protective measures that are required in order to conform to NFPA 70E, the National Fire Protection Association standard that defines the methods and requirements for electrical safety in the workplace.
Marketed under the CTI Cyclops brand, these advanced tamperproof devices are simple and quick to install.
They are available with a choice of either an aluminium mesh or crystal insert and are rated to IP65 and BSEN60529.
They are also UL approved for both new build and field installation.
The field of view provided is equivalent to six times the cabinet depth.
Cockburn Thermal Imaging also offers a next day IR camera hire service throughout the UK.
This competitively priced service is ideal for companies who are seeking to evaluate the effectiveness of thermography in predictive maintenance procedures or for whom outright camera purchase cannot be justified. Request a free brochure from Hawk IR International ...
