Modular family aids mid-range industrial control

A Contec Microelectronics product story

The F+eIT device series from Contec is designed for control tasks in the medium performance range.

The F+eIT device series from Contec is designed for control tasks in the medium performance range.

It combines the best of two worlds - industrial PC and hardware PLC.

It is a modular control system that can be mounted on top-hat rails.

Its components are plugged together depending on the required function and are installed in the control cabinet or terminal box.

The F+eIT system covers the whole range of industrial control technology both in terms of price and performance.

The new product range is designed for tasks requiring the characteristics and computing capacity of Industrial PCs, but whose budget does not stretch to full-blown industrial PCs.

The system only uses those components that are actually required.

For example, the CPU-SB20(FIT)GY can be operated in "stand-alone" mode, ie without display or keyboard; in this case, the additional interface is not required.

Although the resulting control system has no visualisation, it does have communications capability via the built-in Ethernet and RS232 interfaces.

If local visualisation is required, this can be implemented via a VGA interface to which a Contec flat panel display or any commercially available monitors with VGA input can be connected.

The touch screen signal is read via RS232.

This option is used if the I/O Assist Server unit is equipped with F+eIT basic module.

In this case, the system is being monitored via a laptop or a desktop PC, which is connected to the F+eIT via Ethernet (network or crossover cable).

Connecting to I/O assist server via web browser allows user to monitor input and output for the I/O controller, or modify the output data setting (using Java).

Supplied software templates eliminate complex programming and changes can simply be made using C programming language.

Making changes is as easy as uploading data via the Internet or swapping out a compact Flash disk.

With a development kit, installation and debugging of the OS or software uses the same procedure as any standard PC.
