The PP PMC/002 is designed to provide a cost effective and flexible approach to implementing standard and custom I/O requirements using industry standard PMC modules in CompactPCI systems.

The PP PMC/002 is designed to provide a cost effective and flexible approach to implementing standard and custom I/O requirements using industry standard PMC modules in CompactPCI systems.

It enables system I/O and network interfaces to be added, replaced or upgraded without interruption to the operation of the system, which is a key requirement to being able to meet the strict 99.999% service availability figure imposed by telecommunication and other mission critical applications.

The PP PMC/002 can accommodate two single or one dual width, 32- or 64-bit, PMC module conforming to the IEEE P1386 Common Mezzanine Card standard.

I/O from each of the modules can be taken through the front panel or out of the back of the system via the use of a rear panel I/O transition board.

The Carrier Board uses an Intel 21154 PCI to PCI Bridge providing a 32 or 64 bit CompactPCI interface at 33MHz and includes a Hot-Swap control register, blue LED, "ENUM" and "HEALTHY" signals required for compliance to the PICMG 2.1 Hot-Swap specification.

The Hot-Swap operation is fully documented and includes sample programming examples to help in the development of operating system specific "Hot-Swap enabled" drivers.

Data transfers between the PMC modules are kept local to the PCI bus on the Carrier Board avoiding unnecessary loading the CompactPCI bus.

For applications requiring rear panel I/O, a Transition Module is available which features two PIM (PMC Interface Module) sites to provide a flexible way to accommodate the various types of physical interfaces associated with the I/ O from each of the PMC sites.
