Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 28, 2002

Concurrent Technologies has acquired US based, Omnibyte Corporation, which recently has specialised in VME single board computers using both PowerPC and 68060 processors from Motorola

Concurrent Technologies, which designs, produces and markets single board computers for CompactPCI, VME and Multibus II has acquired US based, Omnibyte Corporation.

Omnibyte, based in West Chicago, Illinois, manufactures and designs electronic microcomputer circuits and systems, and has a distinguished 25-year history in the single board computer market.

Recently the company has specialised in VME single board computers using both PowerPC and 68060 processors from Motorola.

Concurrent Technologies plans to leverage on this technology to produce new designs based on the latest Motorola technology for both the VME and CompactPCI markets.

This acquisition brings an established and respected name to the Concurrent Technologies group and is part of the strategy to continue their growing presence in the VME and CompactPCI single board computer market.

Both companies are committed to continuous product development and their complementary skills in Intel, PowerPC and 68060 embedded processors will ensure the provision of cost-effective solutions, quality products and a first-class after-sales support to their customers in the single board computer market.

This acquisition gives Concurrent Technologies design, manufacturing and support centres in both the USA and Europe.

Michael Collins, Chairman, Concurrent Technologies Plc commented: "This acquisition is an excellent fit with Concurrent Technologies' existing US operations and with the group as a whole.

Omnibyte widens our technology base, increases our design capability and gives us a platform to extend our presence in the US.

"We have been looking to strengthen our position in the US for some time and are pleased to have found a business with a similar culture to our own which we can expand and grow.

The Omnibyte products will significantly broaden our product range." Omnibyte will remain under the operational control of the existing management team, led by General Manager, Gregory Urban.

The company will continue to trade under the Omnibyte brand name, providing uninterrupted development, manufacture and support of its product range to its existing customer base.

Additional sales will be channelled through Concurrent Technologies international market presence.
