Online training centre for power quality

A Copper Development Association product story

The Leonardo Power Quality Initiative has launched its interactive training centre, offering online training covering practical and theoretical aspects of power quality for electrical engineers.

The Leonardo Power Quality Initiative (LPQI) has launched its interactive training centre, offering online training modules covering both practical and theoretical aspects of power quality for electrical engineers, facilities managers and M and E designers.

Recognising the need for flexible, on-demand learning resources, LPQI has produced a series of narrated PowerPoint web-casts on its interactive learning portal.

Modules currently available include functional earthing of electronic devices; introduction to voltage dips; uncommon and unexpected metering errors.

Future webcasts will include harmonics, secure power or distribution transformers.

The web-casts last from 20 minutes to 1 hour and can be viewed anytime after a simple registration.

Live, interactive training events, 'webinars', which include a moderated Q and A session, are also available and cover topics such as passive filters, the electricity system of the future and labelling power quality.

To participate in one of these events, registration is essential.

The new Training Centre complements the LPQI web site (www.lpqi.org), which has the Power Quality Application Guide library available for free download, details of events, technical seminars, a digital library, a presentation library and a discussion forum.

For five years, LPQI has been addressing the training needs of electrical professionals through its award-winning, pan-European programme.

The emergence of new energy technologies, the liberalisation of the electricity market and the increasing environmental concerns related to energy systems, make lifelong learning an absolute must for the more than one million European professionals active in this sector.

The availability of a high quality electricity supply and uninterrupted data communications are part of the essential and critical infrastructure needed to power the digital economy and strengthen Europe's competitiveness.

LPQI is a Leonardo Energy initiative, currently supported and implemented by a partnership of more than 80 organisations from leading academia and industry.

The programme runs in more than 30 countries and 13 languages, and has issued over 150 educational modules, reaching well over 100,000 professionals per year, through a combination of seminars, trade fairs, e-mail marketing, direct mail and its web site.

Through Leonardo Energy, the partnership addresses wider electrical topics relevant to a broader audience in the utilisation of power, such as the quality of supply, the rational use of energy, renewable energy systems, distributed generation, comfort and electrical safety.
