Council aims for increased
interoperability
CD Adapco has joined the Design/Simulation Council, a consortium focused on improving interoperability and creating open standards within product development and simulation (CAE) technology.
CD Adapco has joined the Design/Simulation Council, a consortium of manufacturers, suppliers and technology providers focused on improving interoperability and creating open standards within product development and simulation (CAE) technology The council is hosted by Collaborative Product Data Associates (CPDA), an industry analyst organisation that provides in-depth, collaborative research serving the design, engineering, and manufacturing markets, with specific expertise in product lifecycle management (PLM) technologies and processes

CFD software attempts to understand pasta
The University of Padova has been using Star-CD CFD software from The CD Adapco Group to help transform shapeless pasta dough into the spaghetti, penne and farfalle we know and love.
The aim is to promote a standard framework employing common terminology to integrate and optimise the diverse and divergent specialist activities currently fragmenting design efforts.
This framework will allow companies to compare their processes with those of other companies, accelerate their strategic planning and better evaluate technologies for investment.
Current members of the Council include Airbus, General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Lockheed Martin, Motorola Whirlpool and Visteon and technology companies including MSC, LMS International, UGS, Engineous Software, Altair Engineering, the Georgia Institute of technology and many others.

"CD Adapco is wholly committed to being a leader in simulation technology business effectiveness within the bigger PLM picture and our customers have been very clear about wanting to work with us to automate and streamline their virtual product development process and architectures", said Steve MacDonald, cofounder and President of CD Adapco.
"We are very excited to become part of the Design/Simulation Council and look forward to working with our customers and other industry leaders as we look for innovative ways to make our technologies more interoperable and strategic to our industry partners' bottom lines".
"We are especially pleased to have CD Adapco, as the first vendor member focused on flow and thermal simulation solutions, join the council", said Don Brown, Chairman of CPDA.
"CD Adapco's leadership in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), especially with its broad spectrum of customer-optimised solutions, as well as its deep expertise in advanced product functional simulation processes, will be a great asset to the council as we work on continuously broadening our open framework methodology and pilot projects".
CD Adapco is pleased to start the relationship with the council on a strong note by presenting at CPDA's 15th March one-day event exploring the latest thinking on the critical issues facing the integration of simulation with design, and then appearing on the panel at the related Georgia Tech "Frontiers in Design and Simulation Research" 2006 workshop the following day .
