Pumps provide safe transfer of hazardous chemicals

A CDR Pumps (UK) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jan 7, 2008

Risk assessments by safety officers are increasingly concluding that bulk consignments of hazardous chemicals, such as concentrated acids, should change from pressurised to pumped discharge.

Forbes Technologies has used CDR Pumps on its tanker unloading facility (TUF Pumpset) for a number of years.

With new design improvements, joint efforts are being made to increase the marketing activity of this piece of process plant.

The Forbes TUF Pumpset is designed to alleviate many of the problems associated with conventional methods used for delivering of hazardous chemicals into static storage vessels, usually completed by pressurising a road tanker barrel.

Risk assessments by safety officers are increasingly concluding that bulk consignments of hazardous chemicals, such as concentrated acids, should change from pressurised to pumped discharge.

Growing awareness of the hazards of pressurised working has focused attention on health and safety and environmental considerations, in particular the need for thorough scrubbing of the 'air pad' as the last of the liquid passes into the storage tank.

With Forbes TUF Pumpsets, safe working is now easy and economical.

Forbes Sales Director Melvyn Jupp says "The TUF pumpset has been in manufacture for a number of years and has proved to be a very reliable piece of process plant for many of our customers".

"As legislation drives constant increase in safety, the TUF Pumpset comes into its own as the only purpose-built plant available on the market for the safe unloading of chemical from road tankers".

CDR Pumps Managing Director Ashley Fenn says "We are delighted to be continuing our close working relationship with Forbes, we have worked with them successfully for many years and provide full technical and commercial support to ensure that collectively, their plant and our pumps give the customer many years trouble-free and safe operation".
