Bearing redesign survives dry running
The RunSafe system consists of a carbon-like layer applied to the surface of the silicon carbide, drastically reducing friction and heat generation.
For many years silicon carbide has been used in magnetic drive pumps for bearings, due to the exceptionally good wear characteristics and corrosion resistance it offers.
CDR Pumps have developed an alternative RunSafe SiC bearing concept, that has proved to offer even further extended life, even when pumps totally dry-run.
The RunSafe system consists of a carbon-like layer applied to the surface of the silicon carbide, drastically reducing friction and heat generation.
The bearings are therefore far more forgiving in situations of dry running, or indeed with low boiling point liquids or potential priming problems.
CDR Pumps has tested the bearing material at its manufacturing facility in Milan, but still strongly recommends installing dry run protection monitors as the initial safety protector.
Plant operators and engineers can be safe in the knowledge that if the pumps do suffer from adverse operating conditions, the pumps will be safe form catastrophic failure.
