One year on from re-establishing its in-house apprenticeship scheme, following a 20-year break, heavy engineering company DavyMarkham is renewing its commitment to traditional skills training.

Submitting WirelessHart as an IEC PAS is billed as a landmark for the process automation industry.
The FreeDimension application represents a radically new approach to surface generation in 3D models.
The new technology enables designers to stylise 3D models intuitively, unburdened by the need for complex tools to create curved surfaces.
With a remarkably easy user interface, the software quickly expedites what used to be the most difficult task in 3D models: the moulding of natural-looking organic shapes, ergonomic surfaces, and rich three-dimensional textures.
This new freedom in design is possible because FreeDimension departs from the usual method of CAD surfacing, which uses NURBS (nonuniform rational B-splines).
FreeDimension instead employs a new flexible technique of curve-creation called "n-sided" surfacing.
"While there were many amazing nominations for the CADwire.net Tech Innovator Award this year, we found that the introduction of FreeDimension stood out".
"It is a technology that holds a lot of promise to the field of product design", said Rick Stavanja, Vice-President of Cyon Research and Editor-in-Chief, CADwire.net.
"Considering the difficulty the CAD world has had in the past in creating and managing curves, FreeDimension can truly be called a breakthrough".
"We are overwhelmed by all of the great response to FreeDimension this past year", says FreeDesign CEO Dick Sowar.
"It's a wonderful surprise and an honour to be recognised by the entire industry in this way".
