Company founder wins innovation award

Wladyslaw Wygnanski has won the Cambridge100 Innovation Award for developing a high-pressure, high-speed valve for use in oil well reservoirs.

Camcon Technology founder and Managing Director, Wladyslaw Wygnanski, has won the Cambridge100 Innovation Award for his work in developing a high-pressure, high-speed valve for use in oil well reservoirs.

The Cambridge100 was set up to build greater awareness of the value of interim managers in the Greater Cambridge area and beyond.

The network of experienced freelance senior executives and innovators fulfil the growing need for short-term interim specialists, managers and directors.

This year's awards, sponsored by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP), showcased high-performance projects delivered by the community located in the Cambridge region.

Wladyslaw Wygnanski founded Camcon Technology in 2000 to commercialise the Camcon Binary Actuator, a valve that recycles energy using a combination of magnets and springs.

The valve only requires energy to change the state of the actuator and will work for years off a small power source, such as a battery, at very high speeds.

Over the last year, Wladyslaw and a dedicated team of four engineers have succeeded in creating a high-pressure valve configuration for a leading oil exploration company.

This valve is capable of working remotely in deep oil reservoirs and can withstand extreme pressure of up to 345bar.

Although Wygnanski received the Innovation Award for the valve's use in the oil and gas sector, the technology offers advantages in a wide range of industries, including automotive, aviation, agriculture and medical.
