Elastic seal compound stays stable

Ceetak has released details of a major technological breakthrough in high performance seal compounds.
The innovation, which adds a flexible element to traditional polymer compounds, is encapsulated in the ingenious Hifluor range of O-ring, gasket and moulded shape seals.
The new compound was developed from traditional fluorocarbon polymer chains by introducing a greater degree of fluorination, which improves the compression set while maintaining the compound's chemical stability.
The resulting highly-fluorinated seal combines the chemical stability of perfluoroelastomers with superior elastic properties and extraordinary performance characteristics.
The Hifluor range, which takes advantage of this new compound, is set to provide a variety of industries with cost-effective, adaptable and chemically stable seals.
Ideal for the aggressive environments found in the chemical process, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries, Hifluor seals provide a standardised solution for wide range of fluid sealant requirements.
This includes UHP grades for semiconductor applications, ED-resistant variants for the energy, oil and gas sectors and FDA-compliant seals for food, medical and pharmaceutical disciplines.
More importantly, since the new highly-fluorinated seals operate in temperatures ranging from -25 to +260C, the Hifluor compound has been formulated to safeguard lower deformation at various temperatures, thereby providing a more consistent sealing force and less leakage.
The new Hifluor range therefore constitutes a significant breakthrough in high performance yet cost-effective seal design.
While announcing details of the new range, Andrew Kownacki, Technical Director at Ceetak, revealed the fine balance between performance and price achieved by the new seals.
"Existing perfluoroelastomers provide expensive but versatile sealing solutions for a number of industries.
The new Hifluor seals offer a similar level of resistance alongside excellent temperature stability and low compression sets - but are extremely cost competitive.
These unique characteristics will attract companies that demand high-performance seals within the confines of a tight budget".
