The University of Durham is currently accepting registrations for a week-long Short Industrial Course, "Problem solving and innovation: a six sigma approach".

The course, from 6th to 10th December 2004, introduces and consolidates a range of tools which managers can readily apply to improve their business performance.

It develops techniques which apply in the early but crucial stages of the "six sigma" methodology.

The course offers the latest approaches to problem solving in the manufacturing sector.

It is industrially oriented (based within local companies) and makes extensive use of industrial speakers and practitioners.

Due to the context and practical examples used the course is directed mainly at those in the engineering/manufacturing sectors, but there are issues relevant to anyone dealing with employees at any level.

For delegates whose work schedules do not enable a full week's attendance, there will be limited opportunities for the days to be taken separately.

The cost for each course is GBP 1200 (VAT exempt).

SMEs should be eligible for funding, typically 50% of cost, from local funding support organisations.

The content of each day is "free standing" and can be taken on its own at a charge of GBP 250.
