The University of Durham is currently accepting registrations for a week-long short industrial course on "Operations strategy" from 17th to 21st January 2005.

This course explains how to develop and implement a clear market-driven operations strategy.

It shows the place of operations strategy within the business as a whole and how to ensure alignment with the sales/marketing and design strategies.

The goal is to focus the efforts of the whole organisation to effectively meet the needs of the target markets.

Current operations methodologies, such as lean and agile manufacturing are examined and the programme shows how the best components of each should be chosen and applied.

The course is industrially based, analysing the operations strategy of the hosting company but incorporates other company visits.

The course offers answers to key questions: how to identify the most effective supply chain design and operations methodology for each product family; and how to choose which actions will have the greatest impact to support the chosen approach.

For delegates whose work schedules do not enable a full week's attendance, there will be limited opportunities for the days to be taken separately.

The cost for the course is GBP 1200 (VAT exempt).

SMEs should be eligible for funding, typically 50% of cost, from local funding support organisations.

The content of each day is "free standing" and can be taken on its own at a charge of GBP 250.
