The University of Durham is currently accepting registrations for a week-long short industrial course on "Innovative design", from 7th to 11th February 2005.
This course is designed to introduce a range of tools and techniques that have been used to effectively support the product design process, in particular analysing the suitability of design for manufacture.
It is aimed at managers, middle managers, engineers and designers with several years experience but also forms an excellent base for new graduates who intend to start a career in design.
Different prominent companies will act as hosts ensuring that theory is complemented by practical hands-on exercises.
The course covers a number of established and emerging design support techniques.
A strong emphasis is placed on teamwork based methods and the importance of a systematic and analytical approach.
Days on industrial premises include shop floor or design office visits and a structured discussion with host company management on aspects of technology and systems, people and culture, business and environment at the design-manufacture interface.
For delegates whose work schedules do not enable a full week's attendance, there will be limited opportunities for the days to be taken separately.
