Crane Process Flow Technologies has developed software that allows biopharmaceutical processors to specify custom bio-block valves without the usual time-consuming exchange of 2D drawings.

Crane Process Flow Technologies has developed software that allows biopharmaceutical processors to specify custom bio-block valves without the usual time-consuming exchange of 2D drawings.

The software supports CPFT's continuing programme of Saunders HC4 deliverables.

The Saunders HC4 design and specification program allows the customer to specify and select a fully coded 3D product design, including weir and port sizes as well as diaphragm and topworks details, which can be amended and agreed for manufacture in very short lead times.

A Virtual Reality Modelling Language tool allows the specifier to view custom solutions which will be used to create individual bio-block assemblies by advanced 3D computer design software and direct tool interfacing.

"The program offers the customer numerous design options and allows selection of the most appropriate to meet requirements in a fraction of the time it would take to prepare traditional 2D drawings", says David Birch, CPFT's HC4 Product Manager.

"The VRML software allows the designer to rotate and zoom into any aspect of the proposed design whilst discussing requirements with customers wherever they are in the world".

"Custom bio-block selection and creation is the translation of complex piping design into a machined-from-solid valve".

"The software program can achieve this more accurately and efficiently than before".

The program contains more than 100 basic bio-block configurations in 3D coded representation, together with an explanation of design principles, valving terminology and P and ID coding structure.

Customer input and design criteria are translated into a bio-block solution of optimum structural integrity, reduced deadlegs, minimial component numbers and condensed wetted surface area.

Enhanced coding allows the specifier to stipulate all aspects of the design including orientation, material designation, weir and port sizes, surface finish, diaphragm grade and topworks requirements.
