A Subcon product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 17, 2006

More than 200 companies expected to be showcasing their products and services to potential buyers at subcontracting exhibition at the NEC, Birmingham, from 16th to 18th May.

Subcon 2006 looks set to be one of the most successful yet, with more than 200 companies expected to be showcasing their products and services to potential buyers.

Subcon takes place in hall 3A at the NEC, Birmingham, from 16th to 18th May and aims to make sourcing suppliers easy for any buyer of subcontract manufacturing services.

Subcon's scope extends beyond the traditional areas of machining and metal forming to cover all aspects of subcontract manufacture, including areas such as electrical and electronic assembly, design and development, surface engineering, plastic moulding, casting, forging and rapid prototyping.

Subcon 2006 has also attracted the support of many of the leading organisations in the subcontracting world, including the West Midlands automotive initiative - Accelerate, FI Information and key trade associations such as the Confederation of British Metalforming and the Surface Engineering Association.

This year Subcon is supported by Envirowise, the Government-supported service that provides help and advice to businesses on environmentally friendly technologies.

This reflects the growing impact of green legislation on the responsibilities of buyers and suppliers.

Visitors and exhibitors come to the show from all over the world.

As well as individual companies from Europe and Asia, regional and national stands have been booked from France, Italy (including nine companies from the Brescia Chamber of Commerce), Taiwan, Spain, Ireland, Latvia and the Czech Republic.

Special features at the show include a chance to see at first hand the world water speed record attempt boat, Quicksilver, and a series of specially commissioned high-level seminars.

Event Director Jon Hughes said: "Subcontracting is a fast-changing global market and buyers need to update constantly their knowledge of what is available on the market".

"As the UK's only dedicated subcontracting event, and the only event with a regional, national and international reach, Subcon is the place where buyers come to find new suppliers and talk to them face to face".

Subcon 2006 takes place alongside the Mach, Drives and Controls, Electrex and Airtech, Environmental Technology, Product Development and Needs exhibitions.
