Free seminars deliver strategic
intelligence

Global sourcing, intellectual property, lean supply chains and insuring against materials price increases are just some of the topics covered in this year's Subcon seminar programme Subcon, the international show for buyers of contract manufacturing services, takes place from 1st to 3rd May 2007 at the NEC, Birmingham, and covers everything from machined parts, electronic assemblies, castings, plastic mouldings and metal fabrications, through to full manufacturing services, design and build, and rapid prototyping
The seminar sessions bring together a series of specially commissioned presentations on key issues facing procurement professionals in the manufacturing sector.
The Subcon seminars have become widely respected as a source of high-value practical and strategic intelligence, and this is reflected in the calibre of speaker they are able to attract.
Places are available free to registered visitors and can be booked in advance on the show website.
This year sees presentations from organisations that include BAE Systems, The London Metal Exchange, Lambda Europe, Accelerate and international truck maker Paccar - the company behind the Leyland, DAF and Peterbilt brands.
Each day's presentations cover four strands, starting with a supply chain masterclass from a leading manufacturer, followed by presentations on management issues and global sourcing, with each day finishing with a session on materials and technology.
Mike Webb, Procurement Performance Excellence Manager, BAE Systems, will deliver the first of the masterclass sessions with a look at how BAE drives supply chain excellence.
The following day, Richard Kenshole will explain how Lambda Europe has developed a network of lean, high-quality suppliers in China, and how these integrate with its make/buy strategy to ensure cost-effective and secure sourcing.
The third masterclass will see Adrian Doughty, Paccar's Supplier Quality and Development Manager, share his experiences of the reality of supplier development programmes and the way to achieve sustainable improvement.
With global sourcing issues at the forefront of the manufacturing agenda, the Subcon seminars include a look at how the European automotive industry is making the most of these trends, an analysis of how near and far sourcing affect the lean agenda, and a presentation on developing relationships with Indian subcontractors.
One of the other key issues facing manufacturers - material cost volatility - will be addressed by Neil Banks, Director of Exchange Strategy at the London Metal Exchange.
His presentation entitled "Managing materials price risk in the supply chain" will explain how it is possible to insure against pricing risk using forward contracts and give examples of how this works - not just for metals, but for plastics too.
The supply chain management presentations cover the effects of the latest environmental legislation on buyer/supplier relationships, creating lean supply chains and protecting intellectual property - a key issue in today's globally dispersed sourcing paths.
Further sessions look at best practice in sourcing and specifying castings, and how advances in rapid manufacturing technology will shape the supply chains of the future. Request free introductory details about products from Subcon ...
