Association helps companies with direct writing

Association provides platform for the dissemination and communication of ideas, innovations and issues relating to direct writing technologies.

The Direct Writing Association (DWA) was formed with the aim of providing a platform for the dissemination and communication of ideas, innovations and issues relating to the DW technologies.

The association benefits companies involved with DW techniques such as digital imaging, laser processing and inkjet technologies that are becoming more present in electronics, pharmaceuticals, security printing, ceramics, consumer goods and aerospace applications.

The DWA is hosted by Ceram, the centre for materials and technology based in the UK, and facilitates the development and deployment of cost effective DW technologies in the UK.

Members of the association include OEMs, ink and material suppliers, manufacturers, universities, research and technology organisations and regional development agencies.

The DWA has attracted major names in the field including BAE Systems, Fuji Film Electronic Imaging, Newcastle University, Xaar, Printed Electronics, Aerospace Innovation, the Institute of Manufacturing, Cambridge University and Qinetiq.

It also has a number of key associate members including the DTI, Optimat, the EPSRC, the National Physical Laboratory and Powdermatrix.

The association facilitates communications, dissemination, seminars and an annual conference to encourage interested groups to explore the potential of DW technologies.

It will also look to identify leading technologies being developed in other countries using technology missions and spreading awareness of them through seminars.

Managing Executive David Cartlidge said: "The DWA provides companies and research centres with the opportunity to share knowledge, identify partners and take part in collaboration projects to develop and exploit direct writing technologies".
