Helical and Curved spring washers are a speciality of Challenge Industrial Fastenings and a daily requirement for all forms of mechanical assembly, from engines to electronics.
They are invaluable where vibration would otherwise loosen a bolt or screw in applications such as automotive, marine and aerospace.
Helical spring washers aid resistance to thread loosening and act as a hardened thrust bearing facilitating the assembly/disassembly of bolted joints by decreasing frictional resistance.
Specialist types have barbed ends, which lock into the workpiece or have serrated teeth on both faces - these add strength and imbed in the joint surfaces to increase resistance to loosening.
Curve spring washers operate at the lighter end of the application arena.
They are used for spring take-up and to check objectionable pressure variations and endplay of bearings on a revolving shaft.
They are usually made of spring steel or bronze.
All of these washers have one common feature.
A conical shape to produce spring action.
However, spring rate or gradient is usually not high and these washers are designed for a greater deflection than conventional conical-disc washers.
