Structural epoxies boast strong shear strengths

A Chemence product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 5, 2005

Two new structural epoxy adhesives feature obtainable shear strengths of 20MPa and no-slump viscosity.

Chemence has added two new structural epoxy adhesives to its RiteLok range.

Both EP221 and EP222 are two-component 1:1 structural adhesives with obtainable shear strengths of 20MPa and no-slump viscosity.

EP222 has a work time of 5min in typical conditions, whereas EP221 is usable once mixed for between 1 and 2h, depending on the application.

Additionally, compared with other products on the market they are low in odour, which means they are not noticeable in use in most environments, leading to a more pleasant workplace.

"Although RiteLok has long been a leading brand in cyanoacrylates, anaerobics, UV curing and a wide variety of industrial adhesives, we felt that we needed to add some high performance epoxies to the range", said Chris Dilley, Sales and Marketing Director.

"This was reinforced by requests for epoxies from our current customers".

"RiteLok is a premium industrial brand so it is critical that we develop products that are among the best in this product sector".

"After researching the market, we decided that even though products are available with lower strengths, we wanted to achieve 20MPa or higher".

"We have also taken the opportunity to introduce the Universal cartridge in addition to those normally offered".

The Universal cartridge looks like a normal 310ml mastic cartridge but contains two chambers that allow the use of a two-component material with a standard mastic gun.

This means that the benefits of the adhesive can be enjoyed without having to source a packaging-specific tool.

The products are also sold in twin cartridges of 50, 200 and 400ml as well as bulk.
