An iKnowledge Solutions product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 17, 2005

UGS Corp has joined the Society of Automotive Engineers and Cadpo to provide PLM-related training and testing components for the SAE Automotive Certification.

UGS Corp is working with the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and CAD Potential (Cadpo) to provide PLM-related training and testing components for the SAE Automotive Certification.

The certification programme will provide automotive OEMs and suppliers a tangible method to first provide, and then validate user's knowledge, skills and proficiencies at using PLM technologies in context of specific automotive processes, thereby ensuring a maximum return on PLM investments.

The SAE Automotive Certification Programme, in addition to validating the abilities of design engineers through skill and knowledge based tests in automotive best practices, automotive theory and industry application, will also test for proficiency in the use of NX software, UGS' digital product development system.

The examinations and training are designed by global industry subject matter experts who combine existing and evolving processes, based on years of experience working directly with virtually every OEM in the industry.

"UGS is pleased to be a part of this important programme with SAE and Cadpo".

"SAE is recognised as a leading professional organisation that provides great value to UGS customers in the automotive industry", said Eric Sterling, Vice President of Automotive Marketing for UGS.

"As UGS customers expand the implementation of our products, they want to measure the knowledge and skills of their users".

"Industry specific certification, such as the SAE Automotive Design Certification, fits well in today's fast paced economy because it complements the user's existing industry knowledge, commercial training and/or university education", Certification allows employers to develop more effective personal development programmes for existing employees, quantify the effectiveness of training investments, and more effectively screen potential employees and contractors to make more educated hiring decisions.

This common industry certification also allows OEMs to qualify suppliers based on a single standard.

"We are extremely pleased that UGS is partnering with SAE and Cadpo on this programme", said Kevin Perry, manager, professional development, SAE.

"Given their existing expertise in training and certification along with their extensive reach across the industry, automotive designers will quickly realise the value of having UGS deliver the SAE Automotive CAD certification programme".

"The automotive market will be well served through this new partnership", said Cadpo President Kevin Noe.

"We are very excited to be partnered with UGS and SAE to deliver the first automotive CAD industry certification".
