Runners raise funds in memory of colleague

A Claro Precision Engineering product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 11, 2006

Three members of staff from Claro Precision Engineering are taking part in this year's Great North Run to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff from North Yorkshire based engineering firm Claro Precision Engineering have a very special reason behind their attempt to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support through participation in this year's Great North Run.

Three members of staff at Claro will take part in the event after being touched very closely by the invaluable work of the charity.

Company Director Mike Lewis is competing in the event for the third time.

Mark White, Quality Control Manager at Claro, a veteran of four past runs, and the company's Fitting Team Leader Gareth Simpkin will also be running the 13.10 mile course from Newcastle to South Shields on Sunday 1st October.

The participants are being supported by colleagues, customers, suppliers and friends and have a fundraising target of GBP 2000 to help the work of the charity.

Macmillan Cancer Support which provides free care and support to cancer sufferers, receives no statutory funding and relies on public donations to help it fund Macmillan nurses as well as over 300 doctors and 100 cancer care centres throughout the UK.

Lewis said: "Our attempts to raise money this year are particularly poignant as we have recently lost a dear friend and valued colleague Dave Styan to this disease".

"Dave worked at Claro since 1989 and will be sadly missed".

"Another colleague Gordon Taylor our works manager has also been treated and fortunately is now well on the road to recovery".
