A family of tubular linear servomotors uses a new integral linear shaft bearing structure for applications that require smoother low velocity operation and precision performance.

California Linear Devices has expanded its family of tubular linear servomotors The C or D Model 4020/5020 series offer peak force ranges to 5249N and use a new integral linear shaft bearing structure for applications that require smoother low velocity operation and precision performance

In addition, the motor incorporates a larger bearing reservoir to provide reliable long life operation.

Provisions for externally lubricating the motor shaft bearing assemblies are included.

These new motor enhancements are now standard in either the C and D Model 4020 or 5020 Family: UL recognised screw threaded MS connectors for motor and temperature wiring; built-in thermal snap switches with 90C normally closed output; UL recognised insulation system to aid the CE and UL certification process; and stainless-steel end bells with external access lubrication ports to the shaft bearings for extended life.

The superior performance of California Linear Devices linear motor achieves greater throughput, higher product quality, and improved profitability for a broad range of industrial and factory applications.

The simplicity of its package carries benefits for just about any applications: one simple moving shaft increases reliability; the integral field lubrication bearing system extends motor life; full programmability; easy to install C face mounting; no backlash or compressibility to affect position accuracy; no supporting mechanical systems, pumps or tanks are necessary; environmentally friendly with no oil or hydraulic fluids, and quiet operation; and diagnostic temperature switches provide motor safety shutdown for extended overloads.

These features deliver significant advantages, including overall cost, over not only traditional approaches including hydraulics, pneumatics, ball screws and other electromechanical systems, but also when compared with other linear motors.

The CLD linear motor is easy to install and integrate with product equipment.

Its cylindrical configuration yields a highly efficient generation of force, enabling the motor to accelerate quickly to high velocities, even when handling heavy loads.

The motor uses a shaft that slides inside a stator assembly that contains electromechanical coils.

It uses three-phase, direct drive, brushless DC technology and high-energy neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnets.

The stator's length and diameter set the force level, and the shaft length determines the stroke.

Standard stroke lengths range from 2 to 24in.

Force capabilities vary from 0 to 5249N peak force throughout the stroke length.

Linear motion is initiated by a motion controller, which relays detailed trajectory commands to the motor.

A feedback device (eg precision encoder) reports motor position to the motion controller for closed-loop motion control.
