Oslo's metro system has recently undergone a signalling upgrade that included 19 power supply systems from Power Products, a division of Castell Safety International.
Oslo's metro system has recently undergone a signalling upgrade to improve both the safety and frequency of its service.
The upgrade included 19 power supply systems, provided in three separate batches, from Power Products, a division of Castell Safety International.
Oslo Sporveier, the train operator, asked Westinghouse Rail Systems to upgrade the signalling and automatic train protection devices on the Norwegian capital's metro.
Westinghouse selected Power Products, its project partner of more than 30 years, to supply power cubicles for the project.
Power Products provided power distribution and control cabinets that monitor and protect supplies to the signalling system, the Westinghouse Westrace interlocking system and the points motors on both the Roa and Holmenkollen lines.
The same equipment has also been ordered for the Kolsas line.
Power Products has manufactured signalling power switchboards for over three decades and each one is designed to specific project requirements and railway industry standards.
Special features of the cabinets delivered to Oslo Sporveier include earth leakage detection on all critical supplies and, in the case of the latest batch, 10min battery backup for the Westrace interlocks at full load and low-voltage disconnection to protect and increase the lifespan of the lead-acid batteries.
Monitoring is communicated by local or remote alarms for specified systems failure or when limits are exceeded.
Each switchboard also functions as an interface between the Westrace interlocking system and the reversing contacts of the points motors, allowing the direction of the points, and therefore the route of the trains, to be changed.
